Summer School on Mediation and National Mediation Competition

On September 5-7, 2012 Summer School on Mediation was held at Hotel Bazaleti. Workshop was held by tutorial of Associate dean of South Texas Collage of Law Prof.Catherine Greene-Burnett and Prof. Kimbrlee K. Kovach. The aim of the event was to train participants in mediation skills and prepare them for the upcoming competition on mediation.
Summer School was proceeded with National Mediation Competition. The aim of the competition was to inform students about mediation, ensure their involvement in current changes of judicial legislation and popularize alternative dispute resolution means. 24 students, 9 coaches, 12 Judges and 7 mediators were directly involved in the competition (See attached document of contact details). For transparency of the competition NCADR invited real judges, TSU academic staff, lawyers, and representatives from participating universities’ administration (See attached file).
Before the beginning of the competition on Sep 8 NCADR hosted round table for judges and mediators for National Competition on Mediation. During this meeting mediators and judges received comprehensive explanation about rules, procedure and scoring system of the competition. Round table was conducted by Kimberlee Kovach, Catherine Greene-Burnett and Steve Austermiller. Judges and Mediators were also provided with all necessary materials, folders, badges, pens, markers, notebooks, etc.
Top five Georgian Universities were represented in the first National Competition on Mediation. Each University was represented with one team including 2-4 students and their coach (co-coach). While Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University was represented with 3 teams. Initially TSU two teams were registered on behalf of TSU, but at a very advanced stage of registration Ilia State University canceled registration which bacame a reason of the involvement of the third team of TSU in the competition.
Therefore, 8 teams were involved in Summer School on Mediation and National Mediation Competition:
- Team: “TSU” (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) – Aleksandre Tsuladze (coach), Khatia Chogovadze, Mako Maisuradze, Berdia Jibladze, Nino Gitsireli.
- Team: “PEOPLE’S PEOPLE” (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) - Nata Sturua (coach), Mariam Kalandadze, Rusudan Tvauri, Natia Sirdadze.
- Team: “MED-ART (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) – Sophie Chachava (coach), Teona Djidjiashvili, Aniko Parjiani, Otar Machaidze, Teona Gonashvili.
- Team: “OATNA” (Georgia University) – Ketevan Iremashvili (coach), Giorgi Mirianashvili, Nana Bitadze, Lasha Khergiani.
- Team “KHRESILI” (Free University) – Giorgi Svanadze (coach), Nino Tsaturova, Aleksandre Macharashvili, Mariam Lortkipanidze, Ketevan Kharebava.
- Team: “GAU” (Georgian-Amerikan University) – Irina Khatiashvili (coach), Marina Kvachadze (co-coach)Tamar Mumladze, Ana Butulashvili
- Team: “CSL” (Caucasus Law School) – Tamar Taliashvili (coach), Ana Gorgodze, Salome Bezhashvili.
- Team: “MEDIATOR” (Akaki Tsereteli State University ) – Robizon Khurtsilava (coach), Giorgi Kurtsikidze, Giorgi Gabunia.
Team: “PEOPLE’S PEOPLE” (Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) - Nata Sturua (coach), Mariam Kalandadze, Rusudan Tvauri, Natia Sirdadze became the winner team of the National Mediation Competition.
