Willem C. Vis 2nd Tbilisi Pre-moot is Over

On 16th and 17th February, at Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, by TSU National Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (NCADR) together with cooperation of National Center for Commercial Law (NCCL), Willem C. Vis 2nd Tbilisi pre-moot on Commercial Arbitration took place. The event was supported by East-West Management Institute, Inc. (EWMI) with its project the Judicial Independence and Legal Empowerment Project (JILEP). Cosponsor of the event was German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The main purpose of the event was to sophisticate argumentation techniques of the participants. During the Pre-moot all the mooties had a perfect opportunity to practice oral argument skills by pleading the cases before Georgian and foreign specialists and gain valuable experience before the oral rounds in Vienna. Although there were not final ranking, the teams were given scores. Moreover, arbitrators provided the mooties with comprehensive feedback on their performances.
As mentioned above, apart from Georgian students foreign participants were also engaged in the event. In particular, there were teams from the following universities: Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi Free University, University of Bon (Germany), University of Bremen (Germany), Philips Universitate Marburg (Germany), Odesa School of Law (Ukrain).
As for the arbitrators, practitioners from Georgia and other country were invited. The arbitrators were: Amy Diaz, Tamar Morchiladze, Andria Nadiradze, Inga Kacevska, Ketti Kvartschxava, Tamar Kobakhidze, Lasha Nodia, Mariam Gotsiridze, Kataharina Heine, Unana Gogokhia, George Vashakidze, Nana Gurgenidze, Temo Gabriadze, Ketevan Iremashvili, Kety Abashidze, David Khachvani, Emili O’Connor, Sophie Panjikidze, Masud Ulfat, Daduna Kokhreidze, Tamar Goderdzishvili, Jason Dinse, Nino Suknidze, Nicola Mariani, Nata Ghibradze, Volker Stampe, Sophie Tkemaladze and Giorgi Narmania.
On 16th of February on the opening ceremony Professor Irakli Burduli- dean of the TSU law Faculty and the Director of the Board of Directors of NCADR greeted the audience. Subsequently, on 16th as well as on 17th of February preparation rounds were held in separate rooms, thus, participants were involved in the arbitration processes including getting feedback in respect of their manner of participation.
To sum up, Pre-moot was not only an educational experience but also a great chance to get in touch with other teams, broaden friendship groups and establish new professional relationships with practitioners in the fields of international commercial law and arbitration.
