International Conference in Mediation and Arbitration is over

Tbilisi State University National Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (NCADR) in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), South Texas College of Law (STCL), East West Management Institute (EWMI) and its program the Judicial Independence and Legal Empowerment Project (JILEP) organized international conference on “Mediation and Arbitration - Global Developments" on October 28-29.

Among speakers were foreign and Georgian  experts, like:  Yasuhei Taniguchi (Japan), Yoshihisa Hayakawa (Japan), Michael Tsur (Israel), Katarina Kresal (Slovenia), Aleš Zalar (Slovenia), Inga Kachevska (Latvia), Stacey Burnes (USA), Sophio Tkemaladze, Lasha Nodia, Ani Subeliani, Tamaz Akhobadze, Giorgi Tsertsvadze. 

Conference speakers covered the following topics:  “The Global Mediator” (By Michael Tsur); “ADR Hybrids: Neutrals as Chameleons” (By Aleš Zalar); “ADR in Consumer Disputes – Slovenian Lesson Learnt” (By Katarina Kresal);  “Exceptional Qualification Requirements for Mediators and Arbitrators in Latvia (by Inga Kačevska); “ADR (Mediation) in Japan and in the United States”(By Yasuhei Taniguchi); “Mediation as an Effective Instrument for Crime Prevention” (By Tamaz Akhobadze/Ani Subeliani). “Arbitration as a Tool for hedging Risks of Dispute Resolution in Investment - A Brand-New Strategy with Investment Treaty Arbitration”(By Yoshihisa Hayakawa); “IBA Rules Regarding Evidence and Conflicts: The Basics, Pro’s and Con’s of Their Use”(By Stacey L. Barnes); ,,Positive Legal Changes on Arbitration in Georgian Legislation”( By Lasha Nodia);  “Arbitration in Georgia: Shall we Dare to Transform and Make it Work?”(By Sophie Tkemaladze) and “Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards in Georgia” (By Giorgi Tsertsvadze).

Among Attendants were: Members of Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance representatives, Law school representatives from different universities of Georgia, Members of Georgian Bar Association, internationally accredited mediators (who are involved in court mediation pilot project), Professors and students.
